Part 1:
Make a Multilingual Website

  • 1 Making a Multilingual Website with Multilingual Website Template
    1. Choose a multilingual template.

    2. Create the web pages for your primary language. Learn how to create a website.

    3. In the top left corner, click on Page to open the pages view.

    4. Click Manage Languages.

    5. You can change a language by clicking the pencil icon. You can remove a language by clicking the garbage can icon.

    6. Click +ADD to add a language to your website. Pick a language, and then click next.

      Select the pages on your website that you would like to clone and add to your new language.

    7. Click on the Pages view. You can see the web pages for each language by clicking on your website languages on the left. Click on each page name to navigate to that page within the website editor.

    8. On your newly cloned pages, use Translate with Google to translate text on each element (see Part 2 for how to use this feature)

    9. Customize and/or translate the website menu links. On the left, click on a website language, and click Site Menu under it. You can now customize the Link Names of each page to customize the website menu. Just click on the Link Name field to customize it.

      When you are ready to take your website live, click Publish. Select all the pages that you would like to go online, and click Publish.

  • 2 Making a Multilingual Website Without a Multilingual Website Template

    All Elite Website.com plans and above allow you to make a multilingual website, even if you don't pick a multilingual website template! To add another language to your website without choosing a multilingual website template:

    1. After creating your pages for your primary language, click on the Pages view. Learn how to create a website.

    2. Click Manage Languages.

    3. Click +ADD to add a language, select a language, and then click NEXT.

    4. Select the pages on your website to clone and add to your new language, and click NEXT.

    5. Add a language switcher to allow visitors to navigate between languages on your website.

    6. Your language and cloned pages will be added to your website! Ensure that your Language Switcher is in the optimal position - if it is overlapping another element, be sure to click and drag on the elements to optimize its placement. By default, the language switcher is set to global, meaning it will appear on all of your web pages.

    7. Open the Pages view again. You can see the web pages for each language by clicking on your website languages on the left. To navigate different pages within the website editor, just click on the page name.

    8. On your newly cloned pages, use Translate with Google to translate text on each element (see Part 2 for how to use this feature).

Here's how to use Translate with Google:

  1. Click on an element.

  2. Click the "Translate" icon button that opens in the mini toolbar.

  3. Search for the language you wish to translate the text to, and click the Translate button.

    You're done! Be sure to proofread the grammar and flow of the translated text (and ensure that the content isn't robot-like!).
